This Section is intended to let you know what resources are available to you to assist you with moving forward with your case.

This section has been created to assist people who have cases outside of Salt Lake County, but are within Utah.

What this means: This means Legal Aid Society of Salt Lake is unable to represent your case because we are only able to represent family law and protective order cases within Salt Lake county.

How to move forward seeking representation: If you are seeking full representation in a divorce or custody case and you are outside of Salt Lake County you can seek full representation from Utah Legal Services. You can apply with them by following the link HERE.

If Utah Legal Services is not an option that you can use here is a list of other low-income resources available to people in Salt Lake County: HERE.

Moving your case to Salt Lake County: If you believe that your case would be best heard in Salt Lake county you request that your case be moved to Salt Lake County. If child custody is an issue the courts will not move your case to Salt Lake County unless the children live in Salt Lake County. We will not consider representing your case until it has been transferred to Salt Lake County, this means that you will have to make that request yourself. You can find instructions for how to do so here: https://www.utcourts.gov/en/legal-help/legal-help/procedures/filing/motions/venue.html.

If they case is moved to Salt Lake County you can re-apply for services.

How to move forward with self-representation: If you would no longer like to seek full representation and would like to self represent, you are strongly encouraged to use the Online Court Assistance Program (OCAP). You can find OCAP by clicking: HERE.

In addition to that you are welcome to come into our family law clinic to use our computers. We DO NOT give legal advice in those clinics, but we are able to assist with locating forms and using OCAP in the computer labs which are available to the public. Our two clinics are:
